FAQs
What is telehealth and how does it work?
Telehealth means your therapy sessions take place online via a secure video call, rather than in-person. You’ll receive a link before each session and connect from your home or any private, comfortable space. All you need is a device with a camera and a microphone and a stable internet connection. Sessions are confidential and conducted on a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform.
What issues do you work with?
Cedar Psychology offers support for a wide range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, panic, trauma, OCD, burnout, relationship difficulties, family violence, and provides support to women in perinatal and perimenopause related emotional changes. If you’re unsure whether your concern is something we can help with, please reach out.
How much does each session cost?
Sessions are $260 for a 50-minute telehealth appointment. A Medicare rebate is available if you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP. To access the rebate, ask your GP for a referral to a clinical psychologist under the Better Access to Mental Health Care scheme.
How do I get a Mental Health Treatment Plan?
Book an appointment with your GP and let them know you would like to see a psychologist. They will assess your needs and, if appropriate, prepare a Mental Health Treatment Plan that entitles you to Medicare rebates for up to 10 individual sessions per calendar year. Your GP can refer you directly to Cedar Psychology.
What is ISTDP?
Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) is an evidence-based therapy that helps you explore and understand the impacts of unresolved emotional experiences on current wellbeing and relationships, allowing for long-lasting change. Rather than talking about problems from a distance, ISTDP gently brings you closer to how you actually feel about situations where you have experienced distress, so that you are no longer impacted by them. It is particularly effective for anxiety, depression and trauma.
What is Schema Therapy?
Schema Therapy looks at how early life experiences create deeply held beliefs and coping patterns that can cause difficulties in adult life. By understanding these schemas, it can help you to shift long-standing patterns in the way you relate to yourself and others. It is especially helpful for relationship difficulties, chronic depression, and what may have been diagnosed as personality-related concerns.
Do you see people through NDIS or Victims of Crime (FAS)?
Please contact us directly if wishing to access services using NDIS or FAS.
Do you offer after hours appointments?
Please contact us to discuss availability. As a telehealth practice, we aim to offer flexible scheduling to accommodate a range of work and family situations.
Is telehealth as effective as in-person therapy?
Research consistently shows that telehealth therapy is as effective as in-person sessions for the majority of mental health conditions. Many people find it more accessible and convenient, and the quality of the therapeutic relationship is just as strong.
